Conus (Gradiconus) joelshugari (Petuch, 1994)
Description: Shell small for sub-genus, stocky, faintly pyriform, with slightly-rounded sides and mode-rately-developed spire; shoulder sharply-angled, edged with large, bladelike carina; shell smooth and polished, with 8-10 large, impressed spiral sulci around anterior tip; aperture narrow, expanding slightly toward anterior; protoconch large, projecting, needle-like, composed of 2 whorls.
Holotype: UF66424, Length 24 mm.
Type Locality: Caloosahatchee Fauna, from Miami Canal dredging, 20 miles south of Lake Harbor, Palm beach County.
Remarks: Conus joelshugari is most similar to the sympatric C. gravesae n. sp. (Plate 91, Figure M), and a comparison of the two species was given under the description of C. gravesae.
Etymology: Named for Joel Shugar, M.D., F.A.C.S. of Scarsdale, New York.
